The Edge of the Wold

Early Purple Orchid Orchis mascula, Coldwell Parrock.

The sun rose into a cloud free sky, but by the time this was taken at about 0800, the cloud was rolling in. Still, there was enough light to capture the dewy bokeh on the grass behind.

It's a wonderful time of year now, with the early purple and green-veined orchids kicking off the orchid flowering season, albeit a couple of weeks later than usual. I had been thinking about trying to blip all of the Cumbria orchids, but alas, this site is two or three hundred metres beyond the Cumbria border into Lancashire. But I might have a go next year, and spend a bit of time this working out localities for those species that I have never seen in the county. It would be quite a challenge as they are not at their best for long, and quite a few are out at the same time. Worth a try though and a good incentive to keep blipping for another year.

Thank you very much for hearts, stars and very kind comments on the ripply heron shot. Maybe it was my best shot of the day after all.
