Contretemps at the Feeder

Decided to see what was doing at the bird feeder this morning and found this the most interesting image out of a number of potential blips. The greenfinches are beginning to appear again after being conspicuous by their absence this spring. They are feisty little birds and can be quite intolerant of other birds on the feeding ring. This little chap, with his beak stuffed with seeds, is doing his best to let the chaffinch know that its presence is not wanted.

The light level was low and the shutter speed on my tripod-mounted camcorder dropped to 1/50th. Therefore movement is obvious. However, I like the way the wing movement captures the agitation of the stand-off between the two birds. I applied a light cross-hatch brush which has helped to define the feathers on the wings. Perhaps not quite as photographically dramatic as the starling I captured on Tuesday but nonetheless a little slice of bird interaction.
