Defying Gravity

Though clearly no rocket scientist, even I can appreciate the recent reporting on Black Holes as reached by a team of researchers from nine countries. Their observations of supermassives at the centres of our galaxies pointed to a likely source of dark energy – the ‘missing’ 70% of the Universe no less.

This still aligns with the phenomenon predicted in Einstein's theory of gravity I thought, but how does it square up in my own specialist field - including extreme building refurbishments of very old houses? Here you have to be careful as everything always seems to have the tendency to want to fall down as soon as you start unpicking anything.

The event horizon of this rather luminous pink worm-hole at the end of this upstairs hallway then, is that of the passageway down through space-time via builders rubbish shute to a skip on the driveway. It is such a singularity that it seems to want to suck-in virtually everything we would prefer to keep in this refurbishment job in Sale - but which often ends up being thrown away, as it is either too old-and-knackered or no longer fit-for-purpose.

I am increasingly feeling a sense of empathy with those two descriptions, but for old buildings at least, it is two steps back first, before we can begin to move things forward.
