Ossi

A friend in the village died recently just before his 72 birthday, after a longer battle with bowel cancer. A lovely, soft-spoken guy, born in the parish and apart from his time doing extended 4 year military service, lived and worked here all his life, being involved in all the matters one traditionally does in rural Bavaria. His passion was music, not just as a player of instruments in several local 'brass' bands, but he also qualified as a conductor.

The church was packed for the funeral, two brass bands were present. In addition to the religious service, speeches were then given by the heads of various organisations/societies he had been a member of, including from the parish mayor as he had been a parish councillor.

It was followed by the service at the grave. A lovely sunny day, not cold but a fresh breeze. Felt so for his lovely widow, who had to stand by the grave afterwards as the several hundred people individually said goodbye to Ossi. He will be missed. RIP

PS I would have loved to have taken some photographs in & outside the church, as it was very special with the two bands in their full uniform. However, it didn't seem appropriate, so only this snap as we parked the car on a nearby field before the service.
