Little Victory

While I enjoy growing unusual bulbs in pots, it's less hassle to grow them out in the garden.   It's more risky, soil, wind, rain, cold, slugs, snails, other pests ... seagulls here ... all impact the chance of survival.   However, I am still keen to experiment, as here with Corydalis popovii, now in flower after two winters in the sand bed outside.   It needs a dry summer rest, not always a given in the UK, especially not in the west.   The raised bed is filled mostly with sharp sand which ensures that it is never waterlogged and the sand dries out quickly in summer.  The plants and bubs get their roots down into the natural soil below for nutrients.  I am in the process of constructing more raised bed space ready to plant out more bulbs this year.

A work day, Aber cafe again.  Less busy and with an experienced member of staff today, easy work.   A dog walk after, up the lane at Rhydy.  Meg got quite muddy but a run in the wet grass at the ball field after washed her clean :-)   I came back with bags of fruit and veg from my friend's fridges, they're going back to their other home tonight and have limited space in the car for their surplus food!   Jamie and I will be able to use some of it up and with Tilda coming over later in the week none will go to waste.

Jamie's home from his visit to Aaron and Clara.  Seems all went very well.  Big thanks to his new PA who helped with transport for the last leg of his trip, saving me another run to Brum.
