BERLIN WALL

This is a piece of the BERLIN WALL, on display at the grounds of the
Reagan Presidential Library.   It was part of the vast system of guarded, concrete barriers that encircled  Berlin, beginning in 1961.  It divided East & West Germany, but also essentially divided the entire continent of Europe.

In 1989, a series of seismic events occurred in nearby Eastern Bloc countries, that spread to East Germany.  The Berlin Wall
fell" & eventually "The Iron Curtain," alliance broke.  The demolition of the wall began in 1990 & was completed in 1994.  (It was massive!)
German Reunification formally happened during October 1990.

US President Reagan accepted this 3-ton 11-foot tall section of the Berlin Wall, during the construction period of his presidential library.  It was
presented to him by representative from East & West German.

"Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this Wall!"
-- Pres. Ronald Reagan, at the Brandenburg Gate,
    June 12, 1987
