San Salvador de Valdediós

The Pre-romanesque (probably 9th century) church of San Salvador is part of a conjunction with the Romanesque church and monastery of Santa María la Real, which I showed on Feb 25th. The area of Valdediós is a valley leading up to the mountain pass (400 metres high) at La Campa between Villaviciosa and Oviedo. It is said to have been named by Charles V, the new King of Spain, as he made his way through Spain to take possession of his new property. It is a steep road and must have been difficult to travel, so whether he voiced that thought from the  comfort of a sedan chair it would be interesting to know.
The main photo is of the west frontage of San Salvador. I´ve added some detailed photos of both churches in the extras. The first six are of San Salvador, the others from Santa María.
A clarification: I said on 25 Feb that a new Museum of the Pre-romanesque has recently been opened at Valdediós. I was mistaken - what has been opened is a themed gift shop. But the ticket to enter does give entry to both of the two churches.
