Sunset Ice

Morning sun gave way to a mostly cloudy day, so I was surprised to find a bit of light late afternoon. Despite a 47°F high, the lake ice remained and its milky white surface took on the hues of the sky.

Along the edge, a gap in the ice has opened up revealing a sliver of open water (extra). I think, with all the rain we had and warm days melting the ice, water levels have risen, floating the ice sheet.

Extra: Defrosting.
