Slightly foxed

We found a dead fox on our land, so I gave it a decent burial. It didn't look mangy as they often do, and there was no visible sign of injury (apart from a possible peck on the rump, likely delivered post mortem by a magpie). By coincidence, on the same day it was reported that avian flu had been detected in otters and foxes, in parts of England and indeed Wales. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-64474594

Our hens have all been kept indoors for some time, first as an avian flu precaution and more recently to protect them from fox attacks. It seems that the two threats now may have overlapped somewhat.

Slightly Foxed is a literary magazine that introduces readers to older, less fashionable books that are still worth reading.
