Round the Bays

Today we volunteered for the Round the Bays event, as part of Auckland Joggers.  It wasn’t too hot this morning, which was good for the runners and walkers.  It’s an 8.4km course that starts at Quay Street by Spark Arena, tracks along the Waitematā Harbour’s coastline and finishes at St Heliers. Runners leave from 9:15am, joggers at 9:30am and walkers at 9:45am. It was started by Auckland Joggers Club back in 1972.

We were on duty from 8:45am until 1:45pm.  However, we were provided with a delicious lunch before we set off up the hill to our apartment.  Over 20,000 people took part for some of whom it was an easy event.  However, there were many, many people for whom it was quite difficult and to see the joy on their faces after they’d received their medals was absolutely wonderful.  Whole families took part, lots of children, people of all shapes and sizes.  It was such a fun day.

The blip is a few photos I managed to take during the day.
