a lifetime burning

Buttermere

Cathy and I were glad of our waterproofs today, but to help keep the cold wind out rather than for protection from the rain.  Although the forecasters said that there was a greater than 75% chance of rain, there was very little in practice.  There was a bit of snow on the tops of the highest of the local peaks, but nothing to get very excited about.

When we got to Buttermere there was a bit too much wind on the water at  for those beautiful still reflective shots that you sometimes see.  I did try with various ND filters but the end results were a bit "-ish" so I gave up on trying to feature the water itself.

Despite that,  Buttermere remains that Lake District jewel that first amazed me on a walking holiday some 50 years ago.  This is a shot looking towards Fleetwith Pike and Haystacks taken during one of the all too infrequent moments today when the clouds parted just enough to allow a little hazy sunshine to pass.

Inevitably, this one looks better in large, if you have the time.
