Quod oculus meus videt

Alton Castle

A cracking walking day from Denstone, along the North Staffordshire Railway Walk to Oakamoor and then returning using sections of the Staffordshire Way.  On the walk we saw many interesting buildings, but none more so than Alton Castle, sitting high above the Churnet Valley on the opposite side from the much more famous Alton Towers.

After many dull days it was a pleasure to walk in beautiful sunshine and even though it was quite cool, not climbing much above 3 deg centigrade for most of the time, it was quite comfortable with the sun beating down on us.

The walk back included sections of the Staffordshire Way that we had walked the length of in 2009 over three days.  We both admitted we had little recollection of some of the sections and even wondered it if it had been re-aligned, though we thought that unlikely.

I've added a couple of extras of the old station buildings at Alton and also our tradition of boiling up water for coffee in our cafetière mugs at the highpoint of the walk.
