Back Blip

It can't be often that a player comes on as a substitute in a football match with 14 minutes left to play, scores a hat-trick and gets the player-of-the-match award. Oh, and scores one of his three goals from inside his own half. Well, that happened today at the Falkirk Stadium and Craig McGuffie was the player in question. Take a bow, Guff.

It was one of these games where the away side, Peterhead in this case and in the red strips today, played really well, albeit defensively, for 45 minutes and then couldn't maintain it as the second half wore on. Once Falkirk scored their opening goal after 60 minutes there was only going to be one winner, and when Coll Donaldson scored the second (pictured) then we could start to relax and enjoy the rest of the match.

We could not have predicted what happened in the closing stages, though. An incredible 60-yard strike from the Falkirk substitute, another 25-yard volley from the same player and when the Bairns were awarded a penalty in stoppage time, there was only one player going to take the kick. Up steps Craig McGuffie for his third goal and Falkirk's fifth. It was the only one of his goals that I managed to photograph, but doesn't make my Blip of the day. This one has a little more action around it.
