Puerto Eden

After about 36 hours of sailing through the fjords of southern Patagonia, heading north from Puerto Natales, we stopped at the little village of Puerto Eden. This is a community of just 200 people, many of indigenous descent, who can only be reached by boat. Our ferry, Crux Australis, off loaded the village’s mail, food, beer and wine, boxes of household appliances, fuel and much more. There was such excitement as the ferry arrived, with people coming on board to collect their wares and much hustle and bustle to get everything off loaded at speed. Passengers were also able to get off and walk about on the quayside for half an hour or so.

We then continued to Puerto Yungay ( in the extra) which is not a town, but simply a ferry stop for vehicles and passengers. It rained heavily most of the the night and at our arrival this morning everywhere was shrouded in a heavy mist. We all drove off happily onto the Carretera Austral, the road we will be on for the next few weeks. Next stop Cochrane.
