Cochrane river

Today we hiked in an area known as the Tamango Sector near the little town of Cochrane, with the Cochrane river and distant lake in our sights for around 8 km of the route. We passed no more than six other hikers and for a few hours saw not a soul. The sun came out and a gentle breeze kept us cool. The silence is absolute with just the twittering of birds.

Another view in extras of the magnificent mountain terrain. I’ve also included a typical house here in this southern most part of Patagonia, built with sturdy cypress wood throughout and delightfully kept gardens. In the little town of Cochrane we are spending the night at the Hotel Último Paraíso (Hotel Last Paradise). It’s delightful. The hot shower was divine. And now for a Patagonian beer!

Hope you’ve all had a restful weekend. Tomorrow we are off to the Chacabuco Valley.
