Fried food for brunch and then a long walk to Melrose and back. We get there along the Leaderfoot path on the west side of the river, along the old road to Newstead, and then St Cuthberts Way to Melrose.

The Ship is busy, although folk aren’t paying too much attention to the rugby. We relax with a glass of red before retracing our steps. This time we head up the Downing Jubilee path on the east side of the Leader.

Rib roast for tea, with roast tatties, cauliflower cheese, Yorkshire pud and slow cooked carrots. No room for dessert, so Kerry’s soufflé will have to wait for another day.
