Wild poppies

. . . catch the evening sun. They're all over the garden at the moment, seeding randomly between paving slabs, on the gravel, under the hedges and in the flower beds. We like them, although we'd prefer more of their russet coloured cousins.

Today was a fine day. After an overcast start, the clouds lifted quite suddenly mid-morning and the sun shone for the rest of the day. It was pleasantly warm too. We took the opportunity to do some weeding in the garden and the field, planted out some pot-bound lilies and some autumn bulbs. The weather seems to have warmed up sufficiently to risk leaving out the hanging baskets and other pots with begonias, petunias, lobelia and other plants over night. The forecast this week is to be dry, though cooler than today. So, we hope we should be able to make a fair bit more progress.
