A Day Worth Recording

Yesterday evening, arriving at Crickhowell, the weather was sunny and the snow topped Black Mountains we were due to walk today looked glorious.

However, later, the Walking Festival organisers messaged that due to the impending weather, our walk was cancelled - but to turn up and they'd sort something else.

The something else materialised as an 11 mile walk over the Table Mountain (blip) and then skirting round the Sugarloaf Mountain - nominally a 'more sheltered' walk than the planned one.  Mind you, crossing the ridge shortly after this shot, it was like being sandblasted with ice.

It snowed all the time, which was irritating as a brief pause would have been welcome to get the real camera out I was carrying in the rucksack.  Cold wasn't really a problem as we'd wrapped up in multiple layers (admittedly not as many as last time, which was far colder).  However, no matter how good the waterproofing, 6 hours of adhesive rain managed to penetrate eventually.

Snow-free versions of this view are here, from 2017.

The nutters on the peak are probably military recruits out on training.  We met with several such groups during the walk - there's a training centre nearby.

Looking at the forecast for tomorrow's walk - rain - I think we'll be doing something else.
