Rock Church Helsinki Finland

Went to the rock church this morning to find they shut for an hour break at 11:45. We arrived at 11:47! There were so many people looking disappointed outside we decided not to return when they re-opened, assuming it would be super silly busy.

Wandered around Helsinki and had a very nice curry at a Nepalese place that had good reviews.

The weather perked up so a trip to Sibelius Park ensued and we saw bits of Helsinki that are still far from thawing. Found a very cool flea market on the way out of the park but only browsed. Visited a vintage shop which was well organised but maybe not so much vintage as quality second hand. Nothing purchased.

Returned to the Rock Church about 40-50 mins before it closed and was delighted to see hardly anyone was there. Even more wonderful was the orchestra I’d considered getting tickets to see perform, they were practicing so I managed to watch about 40 mins or so of there concert prep for this evening. John Williams music. The acoustics were very harsh but suited the brass to an extent.

On the way home went to a brewery and had a lemonade sour beer (crikey!!! at first but wonderful and soooo easy on my stomach compared to beer). Went back to an underground bar that had been visited last night and enjoyed a calm and relaxing atmosphere before the rush.

Lots of protests in Helsinki today. Amazed how upbeat and vocal people were in their chants and singing. Hope I don’t face too much disruption getting back to the airport with the proposed transportation strikes but nice to have been warned!

Still not sure what tomorrow looks like.

The rock church is an architectural landmark which is built into the rock.
