Mossy hillside with exposed Monterey Pine roots

For a long time, when I walked by this hillside I didn't realize that the thick roots I saw belonged to the Monterey Pines on top. But today I "got" it when I looked up and noticed that the trees are right on the edge of the cliff, so it makes sense that their roots go all the way down the hill and some are exposed. Add all the beautiful moss that the rain has brought and the effect is quite striking. See extras for more. The last one shows the baby mushrooms that dot the hill as well as the moss.
