Sgwarnog: In the Field

Ventilation

There are a few of these round railway ventilation shaft structures dotted around Thackley. There are two tunnels below, one active and one disused. This shaft  looks in better repair than some so may be the active one. My commute takes me underneath it.

This view also looks back across the Aire valley toward my side, with Baildon Moor being the highest ground, and Upper Baildon being the settlement in the distance.

I’d walked over to watch a West Riding FA Women’s County Cup Semi-Final between Brighouse and Ossett United, which was being held at Eccleshill United’s ground (extra). Brighouse are, along with Huddersfield Town, currently the highest ranked women’s team in West Yorkshire, and also the holders of this trophy, so they were always going to be favourites. Ossett kept in the tie with a goalless first half, but Brighouse scored four without reply in the second half for a comfortable victory.
