It's another Post Box...

...but this one is very special.

This is the only surviving Large № 1 Second National Standard wall-mounted post box, dating from 1859 it can be seen at Boyden End near Wickhambrook although sadly it is no longer in use.

This post box was cast by Smith & Hawkes of Birmingham, one of the earliest contractors for manufacturing letter boxes. Wall boxes were cast at their Eagle Foundry in Broad Street, from 1857-1874. The identifier ‘Smith & Hawkes Birmingham’ is cast onto the box below the door.

The next collection plate has been left set to Sunday 2.50 PM, those were the days.
