Late spring

Thinking ahead to my return from Cyprus, I visited Bainton, where I'm leading a walk on 1st April, to check how spring was progressing.  White and purple Sweet Violets were flowering, but many spring species were well behind normal - the rosettes of Rue-leaved Saxifrage were plentiful but there wasn't a single flower bud visible anywhere. Hopefully, after ten days of milder weather everything should be in peak conditions for our visit!
