Fen-edge willow

A morning spent with members of Peakirk Parish Council, BCN Wildlife Trust and Peterborough Environment City Trust looking at part of a walk which will provide easy access from the north end of Peterborough into the fen edge part of John Clare Countryside.

Once again, old willows were a key point of wildlife interest, as well as a series of low-lying pony-grazed fields that could easily be enhanced to support shallowly flooded grassland in winter and spring. Once you add  historical features like the Sobrite Spring, St. Pega's Hermitage and the Car Dyke, it really starts to be an appealing route.

Lots of visionary thinking going on around Peterborough at the moment - we just have to make sure that some of the projects get funded in a sustainable way so that we see a real doubling of nature on the ground.
