Grainy Days

It would be rude to blip about Bigeum-do without mentioning its history of salt production, as the island was the first, and is still the leading, producer of sun-dried rock salt in Korea.
It's coastal areas are peppered with numerous salt farms, where water is gathered on large, square plains, then released leaving a salty residue behind. This is then dried in the sun and gathered into piles using large flat 'brushes', and you can see a man working on the process in the picture above.
It seems like a hard and monotonous procedure, and on this particular weekend there were an unusually large number of visitors from Seoul on Bigeum-do, after life on these salt farms was featured on a prominent TV show, which shows a different slice of life in Korea each week

As with yesterday, there was another shot I was tempted to use, but salt trumped the sea this time.
