Pinus thunbergii

Well, that’s what it said on the label on the trunk. I thought it was a big larch - shows how much I know. Anyway, the trees in the Botanics were looking as impressive as ever. 

In sheltered spots it actually felt almost springlike, and then you turned the corner and that biting cold wind struck again. It started a sort of sleety/ hailstone shower later; fortunately we were heading for home by that time.
