Fasching Dienstag

Carnival Tuesday in Bavaria and, as is traditional in all of Germany, time for filled Doughnuts. Usually red or orange coloured jam, but the best ones are filled with varieties of cream or custard, with or without a shot of some alcohol.

Every Tuesday we get day-old unsold products from a local large bakery of breads, rolls, sweet & savoury pastries and if lucky normal cake. Here is a selection of today's sweet pastries. The doughnuts have a different top coating so that the sales staff know what filling is inside.

Doughnuts are known by as many different names in German as there are regions. In Bavaria "Krapfen", In northern Prussia often "Berliner"
