Show time

This morning I drove over to Woking to collect my printmaking friend P and then drove on to Walton-on-Thames to investigate the suitability of the Riverhouse Barn Arts Centre as a venue for our printmaking group to hold an exhibition. We quite liked the gallery (see photograph) and have added it to our list of possibilities.

Whilst we were there we visited the current exhibition, entitled: For Walton with Love from Walton. The exhibition is a celebration of the work of the late theatre and film designer Tony Walton. Walton had a long career in the world of musicals and designed the sets and costumes for, amongst others, Mary Poppins, All That Jazz, Wiz, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum as well as the 1974 film Murder on the Orient Express. It was really interesting to study his original drawings and paintings and consider his creative process.

We stayed for some lunch at the community cafe, a not-for-profit enterprise with dishes made using surplus food from local suppliers, particularly M&S. The menu changes each day depending on what comes from the suppliers. I had a delicious dhal with naan bread. The cafe even has a bring-a-book and take-one exchange system. What's not to like?

I dropped my friend back to Woking and was home before rush hour, straight into the banging and drilling in the bathroom. It had been such a nice day out I had almost forgotten...
