Picnic Companions

Had a wrap at lunchtime sitting beside the Canal Grande; having just been to an Ugo Borsatti exhibition, had to be in b&w.

Extra of a cappuccino, Trieste style, with the hot chocolate, thick, in a separate glass. And, here, our companions at the next table (hoping bird flu hasn't reached here...). This was at one of Trieste's historical cafés, the Tommaseo, the first place in the city to serve ice-cream. Umberto Sava wrote in a letter in 1953 that he'd eaten, "very good pistachio ice-cream, to be found nowhere else, I believe, in the whole wide world."

Gratefuls:
- getting safely here to Umag in Croatia, for the start of the conference, now to work!
- seeing all sorts of folk; some it's been years
- Julia and family getting safely to the house we built in Sítio Trapiá in the Sertão of NE Brazil, where we lived for 24 years, and where she was born and grew up

And, I'm doing my best to keep up with your journals and at least leave stars, but might be a bit thin the next few days, know you all understand.
