Light and Dark

First thing this morning, the sun was so bright it cast wonderful shadows and reflections on to the wall as it shone through a bottle of water. So this had to be my blip for today's Abstract Thursday.

It's Mr PP's birthday today and we went out for lunch to a fairly local pub we hadn't tried before - The Griffin Inn. (See Extra.: the stone griffin sits above the front door.) Really lovely place, increasingly busy with people arriving who, like us, hadn't booked. The one woman behind the bar was almost jogging between the tables and kitchen, while remaining pleasant and friendly. And the food was good, too - we both had steak and ale pie! I was driving so that the birthday boy could have a beer or two, so I drank a raspberry non-alcoholic G-and-T. Really nice!

We returned home to find the family had let themselves in ready for birthday cake. Little Miss B had made Gramps a card and before long she had me running round the garden with her. The rain mainly stayed off (just spitting in the wind), with mostly bright sunshine. But the grass underfoot was very squelchy. It looks like a lovely sweep of lawn from our windows, but it's as much moss as grass and very uneven on clay soil that cracked in last summer's heatwave. But there's lots of space for children to run, so perfect for grandchild(ren). The young master had been happy all morning, apparently, but was very tearful this afternoon. Not only does he appear to be teething, but it seems he's getting a chesty cough and cold, too. There are so many doing the rounds.

Bottom line: apart from his increasingly painful hip, Mr PP has had a very enjoyable birthday
