GOOD MORNING NEIGHBOR

Once again, it's Flower Friday...but there's no flowers growing around here, yet!  So a lion it is.
~
This is an African Lion (Panthera leo) who is roaring a good morning greeting to the cats in the opposite cage. Yeah, well he's not really that ecumenical in his acceptance of other cats.  It's a dominance thing and he's telling all other cats to keep their tails out of his area or pay the price.

Big cats....males average weight is 180kg (around 400 pounds); females 130kg (286 pounds).  They are quite strong and hunt in groups....not very well with only a 30% success rate.
~
Due to habitat loss, their range has been reduced to a small fraction of what it once was.  There's only about 20,000 lions left in the wild.
~
Large manes on male lions are a product of Natural Selection...as female lions prefer males with large, dark manes and, therefore, more dark maned lions are sired.
