Ubuntu

Today we are visiting the port of Durban, but we are not on any tours, as we are tired after the last two days of non-stop activity, so we decided to take a day off!

This is a picture taken the other night, when we were in Port Elizabeth.  The cruise line put on a very special shoreside dinner for everyone on board — called Ubuntu on the Beach.

“Ubuntu” means opening oneself to others; defining our connected spiritual energy.  We all gathered at Happy Valley, an awarded Blue Flag beach at sunset, where fire dancers, drummers, and the beat of the marimba band illuminated the setting as young dancers and festive greeters offered us traditional dot face painting.  We were then served the most amazing multi-course meal of traditional Xhosa dishes, including (but not limited to!) Karoo Springbok rolls, biltong, Ostrich neck stew, and warthog sausage!  A truly memorable, amazing evening.
