Look out for this.

April and May are the only times you will see it as for the rest of the year it exists underground.
It is Toothwort. A parasitic plant in the Broomrape family. It grows on the roots of trees and especially on Hazel, Elm, Alder and Willow. Although it is spread across most of Britain it is not particularly common and tends to be rather local.

It has no Chlorophyll and tends to have a purplish tinge.

Its scientific name is Lathraea squamaria
