Whitstable serenity

We wondered about the wisdom of visiting Whitstable on a Good Friday bank holiday weekend. We know a back way to Whitstable where we park near Seasalter and walk along the seafront into the town and beyond.

It was a good move as the was traffic queuing off the exit from the Thanet Way long before the winding road through the town to the car parks.

The weather was splendid, clear skies, great visibility with the gentlest of breezes. It was like a summer’s day. People in shorts and teeshirts jostled with those who still thought it was winter and were wrapped in coats and scarves. The sea was flat calm and for the most part the tide was in which is always a plus here.

There were plenty of people around, not too many as to be too crowded. The harbour area was busy as were the bars and restaurants and the Old Neptune was packed. We took a packed lunch which was a wise move and enjoyed tea and scones at our usual watering hole, The Continental Hotel.

Despite the people there is always a tranquil scene to be had the further you are away from the town centre. Here, we’re walking back to the car at Seasalter where the receding tide, shallow waters and groyne created this restful view.
