A special rock

This was one of my leaving presents when I left my job in the Highlands. It is a (big!) slab of Torridonian Sandstone with very clear ripple marks. Torridonian sandstone is one of the oldest rock formations in Scotland ranging from 500 Million to up to 1200 Million years old.

I was given it by my original team - I was part of 2 teams during my time there. Part of that job was taking water samples and my favourite trip was driving to Torridon on the West coast. Not only was I really touched that they had remembered it was my favourite place but, that my old line manager actually went there to bring me back a truly unique leaving gift!
