…or Racapillán in Mapuche, is known today as the Villarica Volcano and is one of Chile’s most active volcanoes. Eruptions have been recorded since the conquest of Chile and founding of the town in 1552. The last major eruption was in 1985 but there have been several smaller ones, and as recently as 2020.
