Excess

There's excess, and there's EXCESS.   Here's an example where even Venice can overdo it.  More than a bit.  To me this looks like a grimace, not an outlandish monument to Pietro Bernardo by Tullio Lombardo.  It's in the Basilica dei Frari, in case you wondered.

Extras include one of the many dogs of Venice, an image from perhaps one of the best museums on the whole of Venice - the Museo Fortuny, not to mention Christ's Blood which is only on display during Holy Week, and finally a lovely display of puppets from the House of Goldoni - the child isn't real, by the way.
