Finial

Today's the day ...................... to point skywards

Definition:
fin·ial  [ˈfɪnɪəl, ˈfʌɪnɪəl]
Noun:  a distinctive section or ornament at the apex of a roof, canopy, etc. on a building:
"curving gables topped by sculptured finials"

I must say - I do like a finial on a roof - especially when they are straight and pointing skywards.

However, the one featured above was most definitely not doing that.  It had somehow come loose over time and was leaning at a drunken angle, threatening to fall off the roof and no doubt, take out an unsuspecting passer-by.

Thankfully our wonderful neighbour, John (who knows everything there is to know about roofs) came across and worked his magic.  He somehow sorted out all three (yes, honestly) of our finials - and now they're as good as new.  Thank heavens for good neighbours ......................!
