Burnt Tip Orchid …

Neotinea ustulata, is a European terrestrial orchid native to mountains in central and southern Europe, growing at up to 2,400 m (7,900 ft) elevation. The plant is considered Endangered in Great Britain but we are lucky enough to have many of them in the fields around our village along with many other types of orchids. After the rain this afternoon I found lots of Early Purple and Man orchids, as well as the rare Bee and Early Spider orchids. The Bee, first extra and Early Spider orchids are in extras so you can see the difference between the two. Botanists come from miles away to see these but they better come quickly this year, they are very early. I hope they are out at the right time for pollination but I haven’t seen many bees yet.

Wild flower week is a challenge apparently, so thanks to Miranda1008 for running this colourful, spring, challenge.

Hope you have had a lovely weekend.
