Snake On A Road

This is "eine Äskulapnatter" (good luck with your pronunciation) - called an Aesculapian (good luck with your pronunciation) snake in English.  It's the largest snake that we have here in Hessen.  I would guess this one was about 150cm long or 5 feet long for those hard of metric. It has lovely iridescent scales but it wasn't keen on a close examination.

I've never seen a snake at large in the wild so it was quite exciting to see.  For me at any rate.  I like critters.

A lovely walk this afternoon with friends followed by a relatively early dinner - it was also the first visit to Himmelreich this year.

Now I'm stuffed and sleepy.  But I did get to see a snake up close.
