Peaceful Evening

It probably hasn't always been like that, judging from the fortifications in the area. This is Givet, a town straddling the River Meuse, & it's the most northerly town in the French Ardennes - the border with Belgium is just up the road. We're currently parked on a camping-car site on the river bank, facing this view.

There's a Château Fort on the hill & the clock tower which appears just to the left of it is part of the massive church of Saint Hilaire. I had a wander around the town with the camera earlier & noticed the little road tunnel shown in the extra - it's actually under part of the church!
