From the Top..

We drove across to N Wales today & are spending the first two nights on a campsite at Bala. Hadn't been here before so had a wander into the town. There's a lot of construction work - damage & flood protection - going on at the edge of the lake & some of the footpaths have been diverted. I noticed a circular mark on the map - a mediaeval castle motte - which at some point had been turned into a garden feature by creating a path which spiralled up to the top, enclosed by tightly clipped holly hedges. At the top there was a single mature tree & a Welsh flag - plus a slightly disappointing view because of the height & width of the hedges! It's a pity they hadn't put something to stand on - anyone shorter than myself wouldn't have seen anything, & I wasn't able to look down into the streets. Anyway, this was the view across the rooftops & chimneys & Chapel (Tegid?) & hidden lake to the Arans in the distance. It's still better than the over-bright, hazy view I did from the lakeside.
