Work in progress: Dandelions

A new cyanotype print in progress. I decided to photograph each of the stages. The top row of images were shot in semi-darkness to avoid premature exposure. Left to right they show: the paper with photosensitive solution applied; the dandelion leaves and flowers in place together with a ceramic mask; after the addition of some soap bubbles and a quick spray with dilute vinegar.

The middle row images were shot through a plate of glass which is used to ensure good contact between the subject and the paper to prevent light seepage. Left to right they show: the image after three minutes exposure to sunlight; after fifteen minutes exposure; after one hour of exposure.

Bottom row: lefthand image is after two and a half hours exposure; middle image is after seven hours exposure (the plant material and mask having been removed). The final image shows the print after rinsing in water for ten minutes.

The print is now oxidising and should be ready tomorrow.
