Alviso

Alviso is a forgotten little community at the southern end of the San Francisco Bay. We drove up there to join a sketch walk and history tour of the marsh and the old town. It was nice to have an outing, and great to be sketching, but I was reminded that if you don’t draw frequently you kinda forget how to do it. I couldn’t find out why the water was that intriguing color; it may have something to do with nearby salt flats.

Are restaurants near you switching to on-line ordering? If you don’t have a phone it may soon be impossible to get a meal! Menu? nope. You are given a piece of paper with a QR code. You order on line,  you get your own tableware, you pick up the tray with your food, and you bus your own table. No one checks to see if everything’s okay. There is a brief encounter with a human when your credit card is scanned, and an opportunity to leave a generous tip. The food was good, but I’m confused about the whole experience. I felt cheated. Part of going out to eat involves an exchange with people, an interaction, or at least it used to.
