In the garden

We visited friends nearby for lunch. As we left, this small lizard watched us go by. It's only about 5 cm long. Google Lens took me to the Cryptoblepharus genus of skinks. There are at least 2 local species in the genus, and online photos of both look very much the same to me - here is one from the Australian Museum, which gives it the common name of Fence Skink. Others call it Wall Skink and Snake-eyed Skink.
