Sod's Law

The weather couldn't have been more perfect for Drymen Show, a big event in the local calendar, but unfortunately the committee decided last week to cancel it because there had been so much rain that the show field would have been a mud-bath with all the traffic!

However, the Women's Rural Institute went ahead with their event in the village hall instead of in a tent in the field, and it was well attended by members and the public alike, all inspecting and admiring the traditional skills displayed in the exhibits.

If there was any muttering and disapproval about whose girdle scones had won first prize and whose crocheted pram blanket hadn't even been highly commended, it wasn't within my earshot.

This was the array of jams, marmalades, lemon curds and chutneys that won prizes. No doubt their makers were chuffed to bits!
