The Lune Aqueduct

A masterpiece of civil engineering.

It carries the Lancaster Canal over the River Lune at Lancaster. It has five arches and carries the Canal 18.6 metres above the River. It was built in 1797

We have lived here in retirement for 29 years and driven into Lancaster hundreds of times and yet today is the first time we have discovered the visitors car park, the footpaths and the steps to take us up to the Aqueduct towpath !

In my extra, taken from the top of the Aqueduct you can see the River through the ballustrade.
