Forager

In nice light and close to hand, a northern flicker danced along the shore flitting from one tree stump to another, foraging for insects. It moved quickly making it hard to catch front on and unobscured.

To have caught its face in light also would have been better still. One of many challenges with wildlife photography. It's a type of woodpecker and has a colourful red patch on the back of its head, just visible. This form appears to be a yellow-shafted flicker on account of its tail feathers, which can't be seen in this shot.
