Hobnobbing with the captain

First of five sea days today and boy was there a packed schedule of events laid on for us. Seas weren’t too choppy and the sun was shining so after a solo breakfast in the main dining room I spent an hour toasting on the deck before heading to the pub to meet Mr PHL for the first of the daily progressive quiz. Joined forces with a couple of retired nurses, Lesley and Dorothy, and decided we’d name ourselves the Northern Lights.

Didn’t disgrace ourselves too much scoring 14/20. We were tasked with making something creative to bring along to tomorrows quiz to gain extra bonus points. I decided to make a couple of Innocent smoothie hats as they’re quick to make. I neglected to bring a needle but one of the entertainment crew came to the rescue as he had several in his crafts cupboard.,

Clicks forward at 12 which became 1 so off for lunch which took almost an hour and a half despite the restaurant being very very quiet.

Decided to try out food r the Sing at sea choir. Luckily no auditions and I’ve sat myself with the altos which seems to be my natural home. Learnt Celebration by Kool and the Gang. Great way to pass an hour. Apparently we’re performing later on in the cruise. Eek!

Off to the theatre to listen to Gary Richardson (sports broadcaster and commentator) who is one of 2 guest speakers on board.

Teatime teaser was just as tricky as yesterday and we scored a reasonable 5 with the winners on 9.

As it was dress to Impress night I donned my long sequinned evening gown and Mr PHL wore his trews with his dinner jacket.

We fared rather better in the music quiz with 19/40, music from the 70s.

Retro dinner of prawn cocktail followed by steak au poivre. Slightly disappointed that there was no Black Forest gateau but the limoncello cheesecake more than made up for it.

Had our photo taken with Captain Richard who introduced his senior team before they yielded the stage to Truly Lionel. As we were flagging a little, we only stayed for 3 tracks before a bailey’s nightcap and back to the cabin for bed.
