Going up

The day’s first appointment is a GP appointment in Great Bedwyn. We drive there through bright sunshine, with the windows down and warm air drifting in the open windows.

I borrow the surgery wheelchair and park Mum in the waiting room. Julia, the GP, seems unstressed and the appointment is almost on time. Verdict: no change needed.

Lamb broth and salad for lunch. Mum goes for a nap. I take a walk to the care home to collect the bedside lamp we left behind. It’s great to get out, weather alternately hot and cold, as the sun and wind come and go.

I get a telling off from the physio at the home. We took a four wheeled stroller that we weren’t supposed to and left behind an unneeded zimmer frame that needs to be returned to the hospital in Swindon.

The route back is along the canal and across the train line. For a portion, a swan races me. And then it’s tea and nata from Lidl, before heading back to the care home, in a car, to exchange devices.

Jol comes for tea: baked potatoes, slow cooked carrots, steamed spring cabbage and grilled lamb cutlets. There’s not much left when we finish.
